There is a fascinating tension between what is geometric and what is human. Between the coldness of form and the warmth of a face. Aladdin Lang lives exactly in that space between.
This wall sculpture by Liratov features an abstract face built from fragments of reclaimed ceramic tile. Tile, the greatest symbol of Portuguese identity, is here reinterpreted in the language of contemporary authorial art — without losing the memory of the material. The lines are geometric, almost architectural, yet the piece has presence, expression and an identity that is unmistakably its own.
Liratov is the urban artist who travels across Portugal installing tile sculptures in the most unexpected places — walls, façades, forgotten corners. He uses broken ceramic that others discard, and transforms it into something that stays.
Like all of Liratov's creations, Aladdin Lang is a one-of-a-kind, unrepeatable piece, made to inhabit walls with character.
